Waste lamp services is defined as packaging (on request), transporting, reclamation, and recycling of all types of used lamps and their by-products.
Waste ballast services is defined as packaging (on request) transporting, reclamation, and recycling of PCB containing ballasts and non-PCB containing ballasts and their by-products, and optional PCB containing waste disposal. See contract provisions for further details on these services.
Environmental Information:
Fluorescent lamps and high intensity discharge (HID) lamps, including mercury vapor, high-pressure sodium, and metal halide lamps all contain mercury and must be recycled.
Even though new technology has reduced the amount of mercury in some fluorescent and high-pressure sodium lamps, these lamps still have to be recycled to keep mercury from being released into the environment. Mercury is a potent nerve toxin, and once released into the air, the mercury falls back into our lakes and rivers in rain or snow and contaminates our water; increasing the risk of exposure to humans and wildlife that eat the contaminated fish.
